
Sol Surf Competition ‘09

From the beautiful, jungle draped Playa Espadilla in Manuel Antonio, Quepos, Costa Rica comes the 2009 Sol Surf Competition, open to all surf competitors. Sol Surf ‘09 will be held on October 31 - November 1 2009, competition registrants to be received at Daiquiry – Pura Vida Beach Club on Friday, October 30, 2009.
Individual surfers will battle it out in several categories in heats of 3 to 5 competitors that last between 15 and 20 minutes and will be judged on their best rides accordingly. The best rides will be ones where the surfer has done the most difficult maneuver and speed will be considered.
Prizes will be paid in all categories to 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th place finishers. The cost to enter is $25.

Organize a successful and safe Open Surf Competition to be held on Playa Espadilla in Manuel Antonio, Costa Rica on the dates October 31 – November 1, 2009.

Contest Rules
1. The contest will be conducted under the specific authority of the Contest Director whose decision in
all manners of fact shall be final.
2. The Contest Director may appoint and remove Judges at any time during the Contest.
3. Heats will be fifteen (15) minutes.
RIDER TRANSITION
4. Riders can enter the water and catch as many waves as they wish during the fifteen (15) minute
heat.
5. The rider exiting the contest area will proceed to the transition point designated by the Contest
Director, wave both hands over his head in signal to the Judges, and tag another competitor to
indicate a transition from one rider to another.
FRIDAY AFTERNOON
6. All competitors must present for registration by 9pm, October 30 at Daiquiry – Pura Vida Beach Club.
7. The Contest Director’s decision in all matters throughout the tournament is final and unappealable.
8. The Contest Director, in order to ensure that fun is a more important element than competition,
reserves the right to make decisions to keep the contest flowing smoothly and quickly, and keep the
atmosphere light.
9. Penalties may be applied for over-competitive behaviour, at the discretion of the Contest Director.
PRIORITY RULES
10. The Contest Director may issue Bulletins at any time during the tournament regarding Rules of
Priority for contestants. A priority buoy may be employed by the Contest Director.

MAIN OBJECTIVES
The main objects of the event are to have fun, make business contacts, and raise money for
the community. The Contest organisers will make efforts to encourage all involved to keep these objectives uppermost.
MISCELLANEOUS
The Contest Director reserves the right to move the venue of the Contest if conditions require, and
it will be the responsibility of the competitor to ensure that he/she is aware of the venue for the
event.
