El colombiano con residencia en Costa Rica , Jefferson Tascón de Playa Herradura, hizo historia por su país al ganar ayer en las olas de Palo Seco de Parrita, en Puntarenas, el Torneo OFF!, segunda fecha del Circuito Nacional Olympus que es presentado por Banana Boat que se corrió en olas de hasta 2 metros.
La condición de oleaje que se había reducido considerablemente en horas de la mañana de ayer domingo, llegó a su mejor forma para la final Open, donde se enfrentaron el caribeño Gilbert Brown que volvió a una final, el de Santa Teresa Elijah Guy en su primera, Anthony Fillingim y Tascón.
El colombiano mostró el surfing más seguro que se le ha visto desde que compite en el Circuito y ayer, después de una alta muestra de competitividad, combinó 14.97 después de correr dos olas derechas para el recuerdo a las que le aplicó el denominado “Power Surfing” que hoy en día es pagado muy alto.
El de Puerto Viejo, Brown, acostumbrado a ganar finales y único de estos finalistas que había conquistado al menos una vez una fecha de campeonato, se mantuvo paciente pero siempre al asecho del primer lugar; sin embargo, pudo llegar hasta los 14.20 y conformarse con el segundo lugar.
Fillingim por su parte, quien fue el mejor surfista de las fecha tras correr las dos olas más altas del campeonato (9.33 y 9.00) y la segunda combinación más alta del sábado, llegó a 12.64 y de nuevo estuvo cerca de ganar la que pudo ser, su primera victoria en un Circuito Nacional.
Guy con 6.20, se estrenó en una final Open en la que no pudo ser protagonista.
“Me ha costado mucho, he llegado a muchas finales pero nunca se me había concedido poder ganar en el que es mi segundo país”, dijo Tascón, quien corre el Circuito Nacional desde hace varios años.
Con este gane, Jefferson ganó sus primeros 1.500 puntos del Campeonato y pone su nombre entre los nominados al título desde el arranque ya que no hubo nombres repetidos en la final con respecto a la fecha 1.
Por otra parte, Tascón es el colombiano que más ha hecho historia tras ganar el primer torneo en Open afuera de su país, mismo que había sido el primero en llegar a la final del Quiksilver Pro Costa Rica Open en 2010, día en que ganó 3.000 dólares.
Leilani, a sus 12, a la historia tras el gane Open
No sorprendió porque a sus 12 años de edad la calidad de un surfing promisorio venía avisando que la de Pavones, Leilani McGonagle, podía impresionar en cualquier momento como ayer, cuando en el Circuito Nacional Olympus, llegó el record de juventud más grande visto en la historia.
Con una combinación de 12.44, Leilani, ganó, además de la Junior, la Open frente Nataly Bernold, y las extranjeras Eve Johnstone y Jill Kepich quienes estuvieron en el primer lugar de la final, pero que en los últimos minutos, Leilani mató con la ola más alta del heat: 7.00 puntos.
“Todas la chicas están surfeando muy bien y eso me puso las cosas bien difíciles, pero a la vez me sentí motivada de ir por el gane y se me dio gracias a esa ola que pude seleccionar al final”, refirió Leilani.
Con esta victoria además, Leilani fue la primera costarricense en ganar una fecha Open en el estreno clasificatorio de esta serie.
Palo Seco ayer ofreció olas de 1.5 a 2 metros de altura, con mejores reformas en horas de la tarde cuando la marea empezó a subir, mucho sol y una discreta cantidad de público que no sobrepasó los 300 espectadores.
La siguiente fecha del Circuito Nacional Olympus que es presentado Banana Boat, se muda a Esterillos Oeste, frente a las instalaciones del hotel Rancho Coral, los días 28 y 29 de abril.
