Masters Craig Schieber, Randall Chaves, Luis Diego Morales y Andrea Días ganaron la Copa Master 2012

Una vez más Playa Hermosa reunió a las legendas del surfing de este país, por motivo de la Copa Máster 2012 que se corrió frente a las instalaciones del hotel Backyard el pasado sábado 2 de junio, donde los competidores Craig Schieber, Randall Chávez, Luis Diego Morales y Andrea Días resultaron ganadores de una competencia que reunió a 30 surfistas de todo el país.

Schieber en Kahuna (45 a 50 años de edad), Chávez en Grand Master (40 a 45), Morales en Master (35 a 40) y Díaz en femenino, se hicieron de un título que básicamente los preseleccionó para el próximo Mundial de la categoría que se llevará a cabo del 14 al 22 de julio próximo, en las olas de Playa Colorado de Rivas, Nicaragua.

En un solo, pero intenso día de competencia, la ola de Backyard en Playa Hermosa, empezó a formar tubos una vez que la marea inició el descenso y con esto, las finales del evento, se corrieran en condiciones más que predilectas y similares a las que ofrecerá la playa donde se realizará el campeonato Mundial.

La primera de ellas fue la final Kahuna, donde el de Puerto Viejo de Limón, Craig “tequila” Schieber, fue más en una final que inició con pie izquierdo consecuencia de una interferencia cometida en los dos primeros minutos; sin embargo, se repuso y logró estar en el primer lugar del evento una vez que empezaron sus buenos recorridos que fueron altamente pagados en puntos.

En esa final estuvieron los metropolitanos Mario Rodriguez, Oscar Sánchez y Gonzalo Lizano. Este último fue quien más le dio pelea al Campeón Mundial, no obstante, pudo más la experiencia de Tequila y la final, aun así con interferencia, fue suya.

“Me compliqué y no debía hacerlo. Iniciar una final con una interferencia es lo más difícil que te puede pasar, pero por dicha he estado entrenando mucho en este tipo de olas, por lo que pude controlar un heat que quería ganar”, dijo Schieber, quien lucha por estar en el Mundial en dos categorías.

Luego, inició la final Grand Masters, a la que clasificaron el jacobeño Alejandro Monge y los puntarenenses, Robert García, Alder Acosta y Randall Chaves, este último haciéndose por segunda vez consecutiva con el primer lugar en una evento Máster.

La final en femenino reunió únicamente a dos competidoras. Andrea Días de Tamarindo y Verónica Quirós de Santa Teresa, de las cuales la experimentada Días se hizo con la victoria en una serie donde ensenó buena forma física.

Y finalmente, en Masters, la sorpresa la dio el quepeño, Luis Diego Morales, quien en los últimos minutos de la final derrotó a los puntarenenses Paulo Viales, Randall Chaves y al jacobeño Gustavo Castillo.

Morales, corrió un muy buen tubo a falta de 2 minutos para que acabara la final, acción que hizo darle vuelta a las posiciones de un heat que tenía dominado Chaves, pero que en la última combinación de olas por parte de los cuatro, hizo que el quepeño fuera primero, segundo Castillo, y tercer y cuarto lugar los puntarenenses.

Tras este evento, la Federación de Surf de Costa Rica, ha preseleccionado a los siguientes competidores.

Master: Gustavo Castillo, Cristian Jiménez, Giancarlo Loria, Luis Diego Mora, Paulo Viales y Randall Chaves.

Grand Master: Oscar Sánchez, José Ureña, Randall Chaves, Alejandro Monge , Robert García y Alder Acosta.

Kahuna: Roberto Miranda, Tequila, Gonzalo Lizano, Oscar Sánchez, Mario Rodríguez
