The weekend of January 28-29th may have been small on the Pacific, but the Caribbean was firing. Alberto Torres (Betolocks), the organizer of the event, estimated waves between 4 to 5 feet, they had good weather, great atmosphere, and according to several attendees, an incredible amount of girls.
The location of the event changed the day before the competition because forecasts indicated that the swell would be smaller and inconsistent at Salsa Brava, and so Betolocks moved it to Cocles.
48 surfers entered the competition, with surfers coming from as far away as France and Brazil.
Jordan Hernandez, Ronald Brown, Nino Myrie and Romain Forthouat made it to the finals. It was up for grabs until the last few minutes when Jordan pulled a "Super Man" aerial that gave him the win.
One of the other highlights was Leo Calvo, who broke a board on a deep takeoff. The organizer Beto Locks made up for it by inviting him to become part of the remaining dates of the circuit. The competition ended with an Air Show, where the one best move gets 60,000 colones, and that prize was taken by Gilbert Brown.
The CR Surf Travel Company is helping to sponsor this event and supports surfing on the Caribe coast.
