CONTESTS – The Pura Vida No Pro is a contest organized to support the kids in orphanages in San Jose. They bring them from the city out to the beach at Esterillos and local professional surfers give them free surf lessons and also put on a surfing demonstration. Each year the event gets bigger, and last year a book and DVD were created to show the smiles on the kid’s when they ride their first waves. The date and location for this year is November 22nd behind the Pelican Hotel. For the details, check out – www.puravidanopro.com
Don’t forget the Billabong 2009 ISA World Surfing Games will be hosted by Costa Rica. From July 31st to August 8, teams from over 40 countries will converge on the beach in Playa Hermosa to see which country is producing the top talents. This event has garnered even more popularity since the Costa Rican team came home from the 2008 Games in 5th Place! And Jason Torres and Natalie Bernold made it to the Top 5 in the world. CRSURF has set up a ‘hotel map’ of the area so anyone can preview the rooms and reserve spaces. Go to – www.crsurf.com/ISA09-hotels.html. You can find other promotions for this event on our website.
ENVIRONMENT – The Surfrider Tamarindo chapter continues to meet the last Thursday of each month at Surf Club Sports Bar in Playa Langosta at 7 p.m. Their November cleanup will be on the 8th, but most often they clean the beach the first Saturday of each month, meeting up behind El Parador restaurant. Everyone is invited to come out and volunteer.
