Surfspots- the best places to surf in the world
Any beach with waves above 2 or 3 feet can technically be surfed on, but there are those which suffice, and those which excel. For those of you wanting a surfing holiday to remember you’ll want to go to a place to suit. So to help you along your way, here are some of the best surf spots on offer.
Biarritz – Located in the South-West of France, Biarritz is widely regarded as Europe’s best surfing hotspot. Great waves almost every day and a large beach to help keep overcrowding in the water down make it a fantastic choice for any surfer, from beginner through to expert. And for those who want to branch out whilst they’re staying in the region, Hossegors is within driving distance and is a lot quieter. The town of Biarritz itself can be pricey, and villa rental is extremely expensive, but the campsites and hostels in the region are there with those on a budget in mind and are really the only way to go for most surfers. Due to the chic nature of the town, restaurant prices can be costly, but as with everywhere if you shop around you’ll find a meal for a good price. Well worth a trip at least once in life for the surfer.
Australia – The destination which springs to mind when surfing’s mentioned is often Australia’s world famous Bondi Beach, and with good reason. The surfing is excellent and one of the best choices you can make a surfing holiday, if you can afford it (check cheapflights.ca for some good deals on airline tickets). The whole of the east coast of Australia offers good quality surfing, and those with the luxury of time can opt to travel up the entire east coast surfing as you go, a firm favourite with backpackers. Hostels are in abundance on the Australian coasts so there’s always places to stay for good prices. A surfer’s paradise. Check out sites like Travelzoo.co.uk for good deals to keep the price down.
California – With fantastic waves, great sandy beaches and vibrant local culture, California is unequivocally thought of as one of the top surf spots in the world. The cuisine in town is best described as American with the influence of the sea. That is to say you’ll find diners serving burgers alongside prawns, as well as expensive but excellent seafood restaurants. Another rather chic location, things can be on the expensive side, but as always you can do it on a budget with hostels and campsites dotted around. And it’s worth it for the quality of the surfing and the fabulous experience you’ll have. Another must have on the checklist of visited surf destinations for those who wish to surf the finest places on the planet.
Surfing holidays, as with all activities, carry a degree of risk. Thus, it’s strongly advised that you take out adequate travel insurance with a reputable provider such as AA Travel before you embark on your surf holiday, just in case. Better safe than sorry! |
