Costa Rica enjoys the longest season of Humpback Whales in the world as we get migrations from both North and South America. August is the very best time of the year to see the Humpback Whales with lots of sightings of moms, babies and rowdy males.
You will experience all the wonders of Costa Rica's crown jewel rainforest, tours to Corcovado National Park including including monkeys, sloths, toucans and macaws. In Drake Bay and Corcovado National Park you can see plants and animals found no where else in the world.
Only in Drake Bay, Costa Rica will you find this incredible combination of wildlife both on land and at sea. Come explore the most biologically intense place on earth, both on land and at sea!
Here is your incredible itinerary for the week:
* August 9 - Arrive in San Jose, Costa Rica and spend the night at our recommended hotel in San Jose.
* August 10 - Fly directly to Drake Bay and arrive at Hotel Ojala. Hotel Ojala is a family owned business by American Fred, his Costa Rican wife, Yesenia and their daughter, Lily. They have a great location on a hill overlooking the bay, only 200 meters from the ocean. Rooms are air-conditioned, the only such option in Drake Bay, and they have a cool outdoor jacuzzi too. You will often eat the fish caught that day and it doesn't get any fresher than that! Relax, snorkel, horseback ride (must be arranged ahead of time)
* August 11 - Vida Marina Dolphin and Whale Encounter. Tour starts at 8:00 am and ends between 2 and 3 pm depending on what we see. Lunch is either on the boat or at San Josecito beach where you can relax and snorkel. Tours are guided by Sierra, who has over 12 years guiding dolphin and whale encounters. Humpback whale sightings are virtually guaranteed this time of year, and we will also get to play with the spotted and perhaps bottlenose dolphins in the area.
* August 12 - Corcovado National Park - After an early breakfast, you leave for Corcovado National Park. The crown jewel of Costa Rica's rainforests and the most biologically intense place on earth, Corcovado is home to 400 species of birds, 140 mammals, 116 species of amphibians and reptiles, 500 species of trees and 6000 species of insects. Corcovado National Park protects several endangered species including jaguar, puma, scarlet macaw, crocodiles, tapir, poison dart and golden frogs and the harpy eagle. Turtles lay their eggs on the beaches. Our experienced guide will help you to see and identify the amazing amount of animals, trees and plants found here. Hike through the rich rainforest and see for yourself what Costa Rica is most famous for. Lunch is served at the Ranger's Station. Back for dinner and sharing of sightseeing stories.
