Breakdown:

Caribbean Coast - Nada for the right coast, best for snorkel and scuba this week.

Pacific Coast - South swell with a 16 second period gives the southern beaches some overhead waves through Tuesday. Then it bottoms out to waist to chest for most beaches until late Friday when a WSW swell brings a few overhead sets.

The Long Shot - A SSW arrives by the 26th with more overhead surf, but nothing big on the horizon as the South Pacific swell season nears its end.

* The forecast is made using 15 years of wave model and report analysis, but can't be accurate 100% of the time. To do your own, use our links.

Playa Grande

Hotel Las Tortugas

Louis at Hotel Las Tortugas

10/17 - The surf Wednesday and Thursday morning were in the head high range and good form for glassy conditions at the main peak. Just a hand full of surfers out. It is still raining here but less than normal and it wouldn’t be surprising to see some off-shore days soon if the hurricanes keep their distance. Watch the weather reports for off-shores and get ready.

Tamarindo

Seafari Costa Rica

Alejandro at Seafari Costa Rica

10/21 - Swell conditions were minimum plus the stormy days kept is blown by the on shore winds, now looking forward for clean small conditions.

Tamarindo’s River Mouth is sharing some 2-3 ft sets. Playa Grande gets most of this small swell with some 3-4ft by Thursday, clean conditions in the mornings with a friendly crowd.

Bingo and raffle, October 21st, from 7 to 9pm, at Doña Lee’s Restaurant. Proceeds to “Homeless and Helpless” animal shelter.

Playa Negra

Playa Negra Realty

Larry at Playa Negra Realty

10/17 - Nice rainy season here in Negra. Not too nice for clean waves but we'll have water to drink and shower when you visit. This weekend looks like it will have some unseasonably nice morning conditions with 3 - 4' waves at the area reefs. That size will continue through most of the week. Once the weekend ends, we will likely see some normal and heavy consistent on shores for the rest of the week. This will bring is some W windswell to make the beach breaks fun, albeit sloppy. Pick up a souvenir T, sticker, or mug from the Non-profit SalveMonos. All proceeds go to the area monkey's. You can find them at Azul Profundo Boutique or Luna Llena Hotel in Tamarindo. Thanks and be safe.

Steve at Jazzys River House

Jazzys River House - Dominical

10/18 - Olitas pequenas. Shoulder high peaks, ultra clean, some spitting barrels early this morning and a clear blue sky. Overall excellent conditions the past few days. The swell has been dropping but the sandbars are working and when it's not storming it's rocking and rolling at Playa Dominical. Not many surfers in the water lately, not many bathers on the beach. Morning sessions best as usual but afternoon post-storm glass-off is common. It's been too small lately for the other local breaks to work although Playa Hermosa South has been mellow fun at mid-tides and Dominicalito has been small but clean at higher tides. Despite some hard rain a good crowd turned out - mostly locals for a change - for the usual Friday Night Festivities at Hotel Roca Verde. Ben Jammin' and the Howlers with Nancy Buchan on electric fiddle were wound up and charging and the second set of the evening found the dance floor full. Great food, great music as always.
