Central America and Mainland Mexico Short-Range Surf Forecast (below published on 2/12th):

SMALL TO MODERATE SURF EASES THROUGH THE WEEKEND. ANOTHER PULSE DUE NEXT WEEK

SSW-SW (200-215) should be peaking today, doesn’t look quite as strong as expected, but still bringing a few moderate sized waves to standouts. Size will back off a little bit over the weekend, then another small SSW-SW (205-220) swell arrives early next week and should help pick things up again. The North Pacific is going to send the next long-period NW (300+) down the coast over the weekend and into early next week as well. Long-range forecast models showing potential for more S-SSW energy around the 23rd.

Not too much new in for the short range forecast. SSW-SW is currently running waist to chest high+ at , with standouts in the range of chest high to overhead. Size will slowly ease through the weekend.

The trend of waist to head high+ surf is supposed to continue again next week, as a new combination of NPac and SPac swells arrive. A very long-period (22-24 second forerunners) NW (300+) is due to arrive along the Mainland Mexico coast on Saturday, working its way down into Central America on Monday. This is a bit steeper than some of the other long-period swells we’ve seen from up north, and although it may bring some solid moderate sized waves to the Mainland Coast, its looking closer to waist to head high+ for Central America. It will get some help from a slightly inconsistent and relatively small SSW-SW (205-220) arriving next Tuesday. This pulse is from a system that looked good south of New Zealand, but quickly fell apart as it made its way into the South Pacific.

The models show the same swell maker now off the Chilean coast generating a little more S-SSW energy as the swell starts to subside through the second half of next week. During the peak it’s not expected to generate much more than waist to chest high+ surf along the exposed coast. There may be a few standouts, and combo spots seeing head high to overhead sets when the tide is right, but for the most part on the smaller side of moderate through early next week. The extra S which will arrive next Friday, isn’t expected to do much more than introduce a few southerly waves in the knee to chest high range during the peak.

2/13 -

We are enjoying beautiful head high surf here in Playa Grande in spite of the wind which comes and goes. Playa Grande gets protection from the hills behind it and doesn’t get the full force of the wind gusts. The water was around 70 today from the upwelling from the wind storm - cold for us but not cold enough for our Cali and New England surfers to wear rubber.

Both the afternoon sessions right now are dreamy with 200 meter rides and great barrels. The crowds came this afternoon with lots of room to surf up and down the beach, but were sparse this morning beginning at daybreak. This is Playa Grande at its best for medium size waves.

Small but fun waves this past week. This week looks to be the same. There will be a decent NW'er filling in on Wednesday that will bring us through the week.

The big news is the wind. In some areas, there are gusts upwards of 50mph. There is upwelling. We should have a break from the extreme wind on Monday and Tuesday but will be back with hard off shores from Wenesday forward.

Thanks and be safe. ~Larry

Waves had been very fun in Tamarindo, average 1-3ft in the best sets, we all start a double sessions week with moon changing and very strong winds, water cool down to low 70s, which for us tropical people is cold.

Avellanas is working great at the sand bars, solid 3-4ft in the best sets, patiente pays with beautiful A frames, every 30 minutes or so. Its mostly longboards sessions but strong paddlers catch them with the short boards.

Tamarindo's iconic dancing bar Maluco is open again, stop by and enjoy the tropical music live.

Coconut restaurant offers good music start at 7pm and specials in their menu every night.

Explore our local farmers markets/ferias and support our local vendors! Lots of high quality and unique products to check out - New ones every week! From fresh veggies, fish and eggs to fabulous baked goods and gluten-free items to delicious homemade ice cream! Pick up supper today at the La Paz School market form 3-5pm.

Spring break is closer every time we post the surf report, its time to book the Kids and Juniors Surf Camp with Seafari Costa Rica.

Seafari Costa Rica opened registrations for Kids and Junior surf camps 4 to 7 days programs along the spring break, contact us info.seafaricr@gmail.com

Every Wednesday enjoy the amazing musical performance of Tony & Roy from 7-9 PM. For reservations contact us via email at dragonflybarandgrill@gmail.com or by call or text to 8554-2723 (as our landline is still down) We hope to see you.

Contact us if planing to visit Tamarindo and "try out surfing" the 2 hour surf lesson that introduces you into the basic points of surfing, we also offer surf programs for the people who are committed to learn the sport, with professional and ISA certified instructors. info.seafaricr@gmail.com or Follow us on www.facebook.com/Seafari.CR

Jazzys River House - Dominical

2/13 -

Beautiful blue sky morning with classic Dominical surf: a little overhead and very clean. Mixed walls and peaks for the high tide morning session, plenty of speed and power. Extra strong early morning offshore the past few days. Fun waves throughout the day, size dropping as usual at lower tides. Medium crowds.

Dominical extra good and Hermosa South better than usual for summer season as well. Dominicalito has had some very clean fun days lately also.

Hotel Roca Verde is the hot spot on Friday nights with live music, great food and good times. Ben Jammin' and the Howlers with Nancy Buchan and her electric fiddle provide the dance bounce.

See Jazzy's River House to rent our cabina (sleeps 6) for special deals on Ruby's 'Palm-Part' Art and classes. Also check with Steve for East/West body work, private yoga sessions and surf lessons if you are looking for things to do in Dominical. We also have board rentals - Contact Us with any questions.
