Central America and Mainland Mexico Short-Range Surf Forecast (below published on 7/19th):

SOLID SURF CONTINUES THROUGH MOST OF THIS WEEK, BACKS OFF OVER THE WEEKEND

Moderate to plus sized surf continues along the exposed coast through most of the week. The current SSW-SW (210-220) will be overlapped by another pulse of SSW (195-210) energy arriving Wednesday and more on Friday. Despite the new reinforcements surf is expected to drop through the weekend. We are looking at a few slower days after that, possibly lasting through the middle of next week. Read more for details.

The blend of leftover SSW-SW (200-215) and incoming SSW (195-210) on Wednesday and Friday will help maintain chest to overhead+ surf along the exposed coast, with a few magnets and standouts seeing bigger set waves going a couple feet-several feet overhead or a little bigger through the end of the work week. Size should start to ease on Friday though. Take note that the more S-SSW shift in the swell will mean a shift in the Galapagos shadow.

It doesn’t look like much but those few places affected it could mean a little increase or a little decrease in surf through the end of the week. For most other places surf should hold through Thursday though, and begin backing down Friday through the weekend. Then we go into a lully period.

The models show the South Pacific taking a little siesta on the job the past few days. So we’re likely to see only smaller background swell through the first half of next week.

Playa Grande

Louis at Hotel Las Tortugas

- 7/20

Even though the high tides for surf are in the afternoon now, the overcast glass offs are allowing some decent just overhead waves to pour through. Some of the peaks are not as good as others so pick your spot and tide.

The crowd is surprisingly light and some of the good peaks are going unridden. This weekend is a giant Costa Rican beach holiday, so bring your cooler. Be safe and avoid the beach if there is lightning.

Playa Negra

Playa Negra Realty

Solid run of good morning conditions and fun waves this past week. Could here the waves pumping in Negra all night from my house. New swell and new energy will keep us in the way overhead range here. Reefs and the Avellanas Rivermouth will be the standouts because of the SW swell. It is and will be well overhead the next couple of days.

Expect light off shores in the mornings with sometimes morning sickness conditions. Onshores will fill in daily with scattered showers that may affect conditions.

Waves arrived into Tamarindo and everybody is really pleased with this SSW swell, waves range 2-3ft, consistent sets with up to 4-5 waves every 5 minutes, those are great numbers!

Crowd is all over, unless the lightning storm reaches the coast, then everybody is out of the water. Be cautious and follow the instruction from the lifeguards, you do not want to be the highest point sticking out in the sea when the lightning hits the ocean.

River mouth in lower tides its been awesome, solid 3 ft, hollow and really fast, grab your truster and ride some barrels!

Tonight and every Wednesday night at Longboards BBQ in Tamarindo! Come jam with Kimi Tortuga from 9pm to 11pm

Guanacastecan experience, Festival El Sabor de Guanacaste 2016 organized by Asosiacion Cultural de Flamingo, July 24th and 25th.

August and September are great months to go out and down to spear some fish, join us in the adventure, the only previous experience you need is to know how to use the snorkel gear,we teach you the rest, the plus is the fresh scallop ceviche we make on board.
