Central America and Mainland Mexico Short-Range Surf Forecast (Report Date: 1/13/2017)

SURF BACKS OFF THROUGH THE WEEKEND. NPAC DELIVERS NEXT WEEK

Not really much of an update for you today. The current run of SW (210-220) eases through Friday through the weekend. Leftovers will blend with some background S/SW due early next week. Early next week long-period NW (305-315) energy will start to make its way down the Mainland Mexico coast, reaching Central America mid week.

Waist to head high SW (210-220) lingers Friday before easing more Saturday and Sunday. Some small combo from the S/SW will help maintain around 2 feet of deepwater swell, and knee to chest high surf through the weekend/early next week for southerly exposures. For spots that can’t pick up any swell from the North Pacific, size is likely to trail off through the middle of next week, with knee to waist high waves at standouts if you’re lucky….

Tropical Outlook

No tropical cyclones at this time.

Wild Sun Animal Sanctuary officially been granted their wildlife rescue permits by the Costa Rican government!!  This means they are now functioning as the area's ONLY wildlife rescue center.

Word is out and phone calls are picking up to rescue animals, but that brings another challenge...capacity.

Plain and simple, they need your help to build new habitats. Each one costs $3,500 and if you donate that amount in full, they'll be happy to name a habitat after you or your business. Or, just a few bucks from many of you can build habitats just as fast.

As we are now under the umbrella of Green Wave 501(c)3, you can make tax deductible donations through www.paypal.me/wildsun. If you do so by December 31st, your donations will be deductible for the 2016 tax year.

Overall, waves have been hit or miss. There has been some swell. At this writing, Friday, there is a nice SW bump in the water putting standouts slightly overhead. At the end of the week we are looking at a small NW'er that should keep things in the chest high range and better for the north facing beaches and secret spots.

Wind, wind, wind. It has been offshore non-stop. Wind should continue offshore until Thursday and we will be in an offshore morning/onshore afternoon pattern after that.

Check out Salvemonos.org. Buy a souvenir T, sticker or mug at Luna Llena hotel or Azul Profundo Boutique. All proceeds go directly to our beloved monkeys. Thanks and be safe!

The waves have been mostly small in the waist to shoulder size but the wind has been strong off-shore in the afternoon for some well shaped, fun surf.

The tides will begin to be rideable in the morning this week and conditions look good, especially if the swell budges a little bit.

If you want to help protect the turtles and don’t come by motor boat to Grande and avoid the motor boat tours in the estuary to conserve the salt water forest in the park.

Bring insect repellant, sun screen, and rain gear - a girlfriend or boyfriend wouldn’t hurt. (-;

Take the ferry boat to Tamarindo and avoid the toothy wildlife.

Its been an epic week in Tamarindo with the very first decent swell, has not been huge but this 2-3ft waves are making a lot of people happy, off shore winds showing up around 10 am within the incoming tides gives some juice and power to the river mouth, mostly the advanced surfers are getting the most of the shallow water there riding some A frames up to the waist high. Higher tide gets to break closer to the shore so beginners can reap the white waters easily.

Avellanas got hit by the combo swell (any direction you could think) is there, but is a good thing, first days we rode 3-4ft solid, fast and hollow waves after waves after waves, you get the idea; currents however where as consistent as the waves. Did not feel too crowded, I guess because it took like 5 minutes to get back out in the line up.

Playing at Longboards BBQ every Wednesday from 7-9PM, Kimi Tortuga, come along and enjoy a cold beer with good music.

Join us in the Spear Fishing adventure, the only previous experience you need is to know how to use the snorkel gear,we teach you the rest, the plus is the fresh scallop ceviche we make on board. Contact Seafari Costa Rica

Mini surf continues. Three to four foot summer style waves are the rule lately with the occasional head high wave pulling through to wake everyone up. Decent shape in the mornings thanks to offshore breezes but mid-day conditions decline with the switch to on-shore winds. Late afternoon sessions improve but the crowds grow bigger too.

Dominical while small is still the best surf around. Playa Hermosa South is smaller than Dominical but has had fun mid-tide session and Dominicalito has come through with some mellow but okay days as well.
