Caribbean Coast - Not much of a lull between strong ENE swells (10 second period) pushing in surf in the 2-3 feet overhead range. Biggest Monday and then next Sunday.

Pacific Coast - Minimal SSW and South swells (14 second period) giving the Pacific coast waist to chest high surf throughout the week. The Southwest coming has some blockage from the Galapagos, but should produce some overhead surf by 4th.

The Long Shot - A good run of overhead surf starts on the 4th and should continue through March 12th, first from the Southwest, and then the SSW.

2/19 - The high tides for surfing in Playa Grande are in the afternoon now for a few days, and yesterday the wind came on shore before the peak tidal conditions. The water immediately warmed up and the break from weeks of great waves almost felt good. Thursday looks better for afternoon off shores and the swell still has some push. Expect plenty of surfers and be prepared to spread out with the small wave conditions and the endless parade of surf schools. I’m still trying to figure out what they are teaching them other than “pop ups” and white water balancing. Courtesy may not be too high on true curriculum. In a few days we should be able to do day break and start the morning cycle over again.

2/17 - Tamarindo has been small but clean and super fun, 1-2ft waves and crowded every day, water temperature make us (locals) look fun wearing the full wetsuits. Avellanas, Marbella, Langosta had been a lot more consistent and exposed to these North swells, 2-4ft windy and crowded days as usual at this time of the year. Copa Creatures, will be held in Tamarindo this 21st – 22nd of Feb. another date of Circuito Nacional de Surf; Friday 20th live music and Reef girls at Crazy Monkey, 8pm.

2/18 - Great swell we had this weekend in Negra. There were plenty of overhead barreling waves! Looks like more of the same for this coming weekend and early week. Couple this Sw'er that is on the way with a fun NW'er and you get some sick combo waves at the reefs. Should be extra peaky. Offshores should be nothing less than solid. They will be so strong at times that you will need a 1mm neoprene rash guard for the combination of the upwelling and wind. Check out Salvemonos.org. Buy a souvenir T, sticker or mug at Luna Llena hotel or Azul Profundo Boutique. All proceeds go directly to our beloved monkeys. Thanks and be safe!

2/21 - Best day this week so far with super good waves in the overhead range, tubes and offshore winds! Surf was good all through out the morning with maybe the best time around 10:00am. I have some really good photos today it was hard to stop shooting.

2/19 - Today was kind of funky with a strong north ripping it up a bit but there were still some waves to be had. Weather is great cool nights and sunny days ! Surfs been pretty good all season so far, way better than last year! Joseph “PALITO” Mendez [WOW surf team rider] just picked up Cobian Sandals as a new sponsor at the exhibition they did in Puntarenas yesterday. He's killing it right now even won another event at Hermosa last weekend. Wants the Championship bad this year for Boys division and he almost won last year but this year hes even more on it! No special business news, shop always has some nice deals on new surfboards and of course we carry only A-GRADE PRODUCT HERE! Thanks again , Chuck and the CREW at WOW SURF!

Playa Hermosa

2/21 - Slightly overcast with smaller waves today. Really strong tides today as it is a new moon. Still some surf, in the 2-3 foot range and should improve as the tide starts to fill and and be decent for the afternoon session well. Steve at Jazzys River House

2/19 - Exceptionally good surf lately. Bigger than usual for this time of year with some classy, clean, overhead peaks and lots of low tide sessions with smaller but perfect tubes. Today not a cloud in the sky, the size has dropped - chest to waist high but well formed and the morning low tide session offered plenty of little barrels to a small crowd. Higher tide mid-day picked up a little wind but the shape held and the summer fun continued. Dominical's been the biggest but a couple of days recently the Point picked up some size and held some shape. Mostly the Point has been too small to work but next door at Dominicalito we've had some fun high tide sessions lately. Playa Hermosa South has been smaller but clean and fun and mostly un-crowded.
Live music has bumped up locally with Hotel Roca Verde holding down regular Friday nights; Tortilla Flats, Rum Bar and Patron's adding to the live music scene as well. Check our website: www.jazzysriverhouse.com or come by and say hi.
