Central America and Mainland Mexico Short-Range Surf Forecast (below published on 4/19th):

GRADUAL INCREASE IN SWELL THROUGH THE END OF THE WEEK, THEN A BIG ONE!

SW (210-220) will gradually build through the work week blending with leftovers in the water already. This swell should come to a peak Thursday/Friday. As that swell peaks a larger SSW-SW (195-215) arrives and is expected to bring some large surf to the regions exposed coast through the weekend. Surf will gradually ease through early next week.

The blend of SW (210-220) leftover from the weekend and new energy slowly building over the next few days will bring some fun moderate sized surf through the week. The majority of the energy though will be showing up Wednesday and Thursday and we should see deepwater heights build to around 3-4 feet. This will bump up the surf a little bit more, with consistency in the chest to head high range at standouts with better sets going overhead to overhead+. Looks pretty fun! Friday another swell arrives… this one a little bigger.

The large system that has been spinning around south of the Pitcairns and Easter Island the past few days pretty much will be a direct hit. The SSW (195-215) swell is due to arrive with 20-22 second forerunners on Friday, and will build to a fairly large peak on Saturday with deepwater heights around 5 to 7 feet with 16 to 17 second periods. That means wave heights are going to jump up a bit. The exposed coast is likely to see head high to well overhead+ surf building through the day Friday. Saturday during the peak overhead to double overhead for most of the exposed coast. A few standouts will see set waves going double overhead-double overhead+, and deepwater spots like Puerto are expected to be seeing set waves going triple overhead or bigger. So although there will be a lot of variation in size, there should at least be some good surf for most areas. Wave heights will start to ease up on Sunday, and continue to back off through the middle of next week.

The daybreak sessions have been OK (sometimes outstanding) in the head high, to just overhead range almost every day. The wind is a little disorganised now and the afternoon sessions are a gamble as we head toward the rainy period before the middle of June when the off-shores come back for a while. We actually had a few minutes of rain last night so prepare for some Florida like weather if you come in the first weeks of May.

There’s lots of room at the various peaks often working at different tides.

Fairly small waves 1-2 ft, every other hours a 3ft set has shown by the River Mouth in Tamarindo, partially crowded, since its not so frequent every body get to talk and have fun out there.

Langosta has been a bit better with 3ft solid with the out going tides in the mid morning, taking the chance of wind trades from South around 10-11AM. The crowd out there is basically locals only, so it does not feels so busy, but it is.

Weather is on transition to the rainy season, is more humid and hotter at this time of the year, some clouds are visiting in the early afternoons making the sunsets gorgeous.

Jazzys River House - Dominical

Steve Fergus at Jazzys River House

- 4/27th

Head high with occasional overhead set waves and not the best conditions.  We've had unsettled weather for days now and we've been missing our usual morning offshore just as we are rotating back to morning high tides.  With light rains, cloudy skies and no offshore breeze morning sessions have been messy.  Not much shape or form.  Pretty well closed out.  Mid-day dropping tide has been inconsistent and late sessions have been mixed as well but with some fun windows.

Dominical still the best surf around but Hermosa South has been 3' - 4' with some fun windows and Dominicalito has been lot's of fun with it's smaller waves..

Hotel Roca Verde is still bringing in the crowds thanks to their great food, comfortable atmosphere and Friday night live music.  Ben Jammin' and the Howlers with Electric Fiddle Lady Nancy Buchan providing energetic rock and roll music to get the dinner crowd up and dancing.

See www.jazzysriverhouse.com for late season specials:  Come visit Ruby's art and craft gallery filled with her original creations and see about taking her weaving class to learn to make your own art.  See Steve for relief from aches and pains with his East/West Traditional Taoist massage therapy and join him for his Yoga and Internal Exercise sessions.  Or take a surflesson and learn the ancient Hawaiian Sport of Kings.  Board rentals and sales available.

Check www.jazzysriverhouse.com for Ruby's offering of 'Palm Part Art' classes and Steve's offers of surf lessons, yoga sessions and 'East/West massage therapy.
